Blog #2; Work Readiness Skills

In my internship, I positively used communication and literacy. For literacy; I was able to write a computer program which sorted documents on the computer, automatically, instead of having to go through each file one by one and picking out certain documents. By doing so, I made the process a lot quicker, for myself, and my hosting company and learned about the power of knowledge and computers. I was also able to effectively use communication, by telling my employer my personal goals, which has made working together a lot easier, and has allowed my employer to use my strong suits and areas of expertise. Through this experience, I have learned that effective communication is very helpful in achieving more and optimally using resources.

Two work readiness skills which have held me back have been diligence and professionalism. In terms of diligence, when filing I lost count of the file number and accidentally skipped a document in filing, and because I wasn't acting with diligence, I had to redo the entire process, which was a lot of extra work. For professionalism, I came to work late by a few minutes, which was unprofessional and gave me a late start to work, and so I had to work harder to complete all my tasks on time.

Goals, Habits, Allies

Goals, Habits, Allies

Goals:
Short term: I want to get into the four year college of my choosing, what ever that might be. I want to take a couple of ACT classes in order to improve my scores for college. Finally I would like to take a couple of business classes at my local College of Marin so I get a better feel on how the buisiness world operates and feels.
Long term: I want to be a CEO of my own company by 2026. Before that I want to get my bachelors degree in college by 2020. Finally I want to get an internship at one of the main offices at a successful, fortune-500 company (maybe a company like Google, Apple, or even Disney).

Habits:
Habit that I have now: I tend to stay on time and stay after hours to help my colleagues out with what they need. Also I am always respectful and know when to talk at the right time. Every time I get assigned homework, I always do it right when I get home. Finally I check everything that I do to see if I have committed a mistake.
Habits that I would like to develop: I would like to develop the habit of listening more instead of always thinking about what I am going to say. Also I would like to start conversations with people I wouldn't normally talk to because it would allow me to connect with more people and gain more social skills because you can't have enough of those.

Allies:
What allies I all ready have: My allies include the smarter peers at my grade because they make me want to do more and push myself, because at the end of the day I am competing with them in some way or another. Also my friends are my allies because we all help each other academically, athletically, and socially.
Someone who I want to be my ally: I want my ally to be a person who knows how to be effective, while still keeping the interests of the workers and customers. Maybe this person will be a high ranked person that runs a successful, high-priority company.

Goals, Habits and Allies

Goals, Habits and Allies.

Short Term Goals: In the short term, I have three goals. My first goal, is to work on (and complete) three projects which I've been wanting to work on. My second goal, is to learn game theory and some other applicable topics in math through Khan Academy and other sources. Lastly, my third goal is to get a long term job (or internship) somewhere.

Long Term Goals: For the long-term, I have three more goals. My first goal is to go to college (and use other methods) to learn a lot of math, computer science, physics and economics concepts and apply them to my job or whatever I want to do. My second goal, is to start, or work for an interesting and world-changing startup, which hopefully becomes a Fortune 500 company. My third long term goal, is to bring education to less fortunate people through philanthropy and technology.

Habits: Four habits I want to develop are: writing down my goals, showing up on time, working at optimal efficiency, and showing dedication in everything I do. Right now, some habits I don't like are; occasional apathy, procrastination, and being easily distracted.

Allies: My allies in achieving my goals will be, my parents (who will help me financially and in guiding me), and my friends (to motivate, and work with me).
